十二の舞 The Twelve Dances

宮入(MIYAIRI)
神事の始めとして舞台を清める舞いです。雄獅子と雌獅子の二頭が踊り子と金幣(きんぺい)、銀幣(ぎんぺい)に引き連れられ、神前へ上がっていきます。辿り着いた二頭は頭を下げ神社に参拝します。
It is a dance that cleanses the stage as the beginning of the Shinto ritual. Two lions, a male lion and a female lion, are led by a dancer, a gold coin, and a silver coin, and go up to the shrine. When they arrive, they bow their heads and visit the shrine.

神楽(KAGURA)
雄獅子が氏神に五穀豊穣の感謝と氏子の安泰を祈願する舞です。獅子は口にくわえていた短刀を氏神に捧げます。立ち上がった獅子の高さは三メートルを越えます。
It is a dance in which a male lion prays to the god for a bountiful harvest and for the safety of the clan and children. The lion offers the dagger he was holding in his mouth to the god. The height of the standing lion exceeds three meters.

曲舞(KYOKUMAI)
雌獅子が野原で踊っていた踊り子と一緒になって愉快に舞います。踊り子は歌舞伎の世界で使われる三番叟の装束を身に纏いリズムにあわせて鈴と鉦を鳴らします。
The lioness dances merrily with the dancers who were dancing in the field. The dancers are dressed in the Sanban costume used in the world of kabuki, and ring bells and hooks to the rhythm.

牡丹(BOTAN)
雌獅子が山の麓で牡丹の花を持った踊り子と軽快に舞います。獅子は踊り子のもつ鮮やかな牡丹の花に惹かれていきます。踊り子は花を操り、獅子を軽やかに舞わせます。
A lioness dances lightly with a dancer holding a peony flower at the foot of the mountain. The lion is attracted to the bright peony flowers of the dancers. The dancer manipulates the flowers and makes the lion dance lightly.

刀(KATANA)
お腹を空かせた雄獅子が山奥で一人の侍と出くわします。睨み合い、ついに死闘が始まります。獅子は侍に喰らいつこうとし、侍は決死の覚悟で斬りかかります。
A hungry male lion encounters a samurai deep in the mountains. They stare at each other, and finally a fight to the death begins. The lion tries to bite the samurai, and the samurai slashes at him with a determination to the death.

相之山(AINOYAMA)
森を散歩していた雌獅子に二匹のいたずら好きな猿達がちょっかいを出します。猿達は獅子のお腹のしたにもぐったり、尻尾を掴んだりします。遂に獅子は怒りだし、猿達に襲いかかります。
The lioness was taking a walk in the woods, and two mischievous monkeys gave her a little bit. The monkeys squirm on the lion's belly and grab its tail. Finally, the lion gets angry and attacks the monkeys.

道引(MICHIBIKI)
獅子が山の中で生息している姿を繊細に表現した舞です。体を舐めたり、寝転んだり、踊ったり、獅子が生きているような繊細で自然な動きが見どころです。
It is a dance that delicately expresses the appearance of a lion living in the mountains. Licking the body, lying down, dancing, and delicate and natural movements like a lion alive are the highlights.

蝶子(CYOUKO)
春先の晴れた日に菜の花畑で蝶をあやつる童子がいます。そこに雌獅子が現れました。童子は軽快に蝶をあやつり、襲われまいと獅子の気をそらせます。獅子は蝶を口で捕まえようと夢中になります。
On a sunny day in early spring, there is a child playing with butterflies in a rape field. A lioness appeared there. The child nimbly manipulates the butterfly to distract the lion from being attacked. The lion goes crazy trying to catch the butterfly with his mouth.

棒(BOU)
棒の達人である僧侶が獅子を退治しようと獅子の住む山に入り込みます。雄獅子を見つけた棒の達人は、巧みな技で獅子を叩き伏せ、腹を持ち上げ投げ飛ばします。一方、獅子も負けじと噛みついていきます。
A monk who is a master of sticks enters the mountain where the lions live in order to slay them. When the stick master finds the lion, he knocks it down with skillful techniques, lifts its belly and throws it away. On the other hand, the lion is not to be outdone and bites.

吉野(YOSHINO)
桜の咲く好季節に、雌獅子が山から野原へ下りてきたところ、野原では童子たちが遊んでいました。獅子は小春に酔いしれ童子と一緒に遊びだします。
In the good season when the cherry blossoms were in bloom, a lioness came down from the mountain to the field, and the children were playing in the field. The lion gets drunk in Koharu and starts playing with the child.

岡崎(OKAZAKI)
山里でお多福が擂り粉木を使って味噌をすっていると、雄獅子が匂いに釣られて現れます。
お多福の窮地を見かねた猿が、助けに入ります。猿は自分の背丈程もある、しゃもじを振り上げ獅子を追い払います。
In a mountain village, Otafuku is sipping miso paste using a powdered wood when a male lion is caught by the smell and appears.
The monkey, who could not see the predicament of Otafuku, comes to the rescue. The monkey raises his scoop, which is as tall as he is, and drives the lion away.

梯子(HASHIGO)
雄獅子が二匹の猿に導かれ、峻険の山へ登っていきます。山頂に達した獅子は立ち上がり、神々に人々の無病息災と土地の五穀豊穣を願う舞を奉納します。地上から高さ六メートル以上の梯子の上に立ち舞わす梯子獅子は、宇原獅子舞保存会が世界に誇る舞です。
A male lion is led by two monkeys to climb a steep mountain. When the lion reaches the top of the mountain, he stands up and offers a dance to the gods to pray for the people's health and well-being and the abundance of the land. The ladder lion, which is performed on a ladder that is more than six meters high from the ground, is a world-class dance of the Uhara Lion Dance Preservation Society.
